The Top 5 Dive Sites

Handpicked by a local — depths, marine life, difficulty, and insider tips

Advanced / Deep

1. Mary's Place⭐ Top Pick

Sandy Bay / West End Wall

Depth: 18–30m Viz: 80-100ft Current: Mild/Moderate

Massive coral wall with vertical cracks (chimneys). Swim through dark crevices and pop out into the abyss. Marine Life: Nassau Groupers, Black Coral trees, Eagle Rays.

Luis’ tip: Check NDL carefully — deep dive. OW divers can do shallower crack with guide.
Open Water (Advanced optional)

2. El Águila Wreck

Near Punta Gorda

Depth: 25–30m Viz: 90ft+ Current: Light

225ft shrimp boat sunk in 1997 — intact cargo hold, galley, and massive propeller. Covered in electric orange sponges. Marine Life: Creole Wrasse schools, Horse-eye Jacks, Southern Stingrays.

Bring a dive light even during the day; inside hull hides squirrelfish & bigeyes.
Beginner / OW friendly

3. Hole in the Wall

West End Wall

Depth: 12–24m Viz: Crystal clear Current: Zero to light

Iconic underwater archway carved into coral. Swim through the "stained glass" tunnel to the drop-off. Marine Life: Spotted Eagle Rays, Green Moray Eels, massive hard corals.

Perfect for GoPro — have buddy hover at entrance for silhouette shots.
🏆 Beginner + Night Dive

4. Odyssey Wreck / Gibson Bight

West End shallow bay

Depth: 9–18m Viz: 70ft+ Epic night dive

185ft freighter in sandy bottom + seagrass beds. Huge bottom time, wheelhouse exploration. Marine Life: Seahorses (!!), Arrow Crabs, Porcupinefish, Octopus at night.

Do this as a night dive — bioluminescence & basket stars are magical.
Advanced / Swim-throughs

5. Calvin's Crack (French Cay)

Remote French Cay

Depth: 15–24m Viz: Stellar Slight washing-machine current

Narrow swim-throughs, dark passages, and an amphitheater inside the reef. Feels like a video game level. Marine Life: Black Durgon triggers, Tiger Groupers, Caribbean Reef Sharks.

Master your buoyancy before this one — fire coral on edges. Totally worth it!

Preserving the Reef: Eco-Tourism in Roatan

The Roatan Marine Park (RMP) has helped our reefs recover — but we need your help. No touch, no anchors, and reef-safe sunscreen. Every little action keeps Mary’s Place and El Aguila alive for generations.

Reef-safe sunscreen

Oxybenzone kills coral. Choose mineral-based SPF.

Perfect buoyancy

Broken coral takes decades to grow — hover, don't kneel.

Leave only bubbles

That conch shell? Leave it for the hermit crab. Take only memories.
